The University Cyber Challenge:  A Board Perspective

Effective Oversight in the Face of Evolving Threats

Thursday March 9, 2017, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Executive and Board Oversight

As ongoing incidents demonstrate, cyber risk is real for higher education and it’s not going away. Educational institutions are being directly targeted – seen by cyber criminals as soft targets with valuable stores of personal data and intellectual property.

The role of directors and officers has evolved, along with the threats against their institutions. Board members have direct obligations regarding cyber risk, and court challenges are currently testing the limits of director liability. These new challenges require new approaches to governance and risk management.

This webinar, designed specifically for board members, will provide real-world insight and much-needed clarity about how to ensure good governance of critical assets and oversee the response to the most urgent and evolving cyber threats.

Topics and questions to be discussed:

  • Cybersecurity as a component of Enterprise Risk Management
  • The roles and obligations of directors
  • Legal obligations and risks
  • A new model for cyber risk governance and management
  • Assessing cyber risk and prioritizing organizational assets
  • Perspectives on cyber insurance
